When you’re a city nanny, you spend a lot of time at the library. The Boston Public Library was the nation’s first library established in 1848 and is one of the most visited sites in the city for its sheer beauty. The number of branches here also make it difficult to walk a child home without them asking to make a stop. Despite all my time in the children’s section of libraries I never stumbled across an Amy Wilson Sanger book until I started taking care of Pearl.
Sanger’s World Snack series is a delectable series of books each featuring beautiful pictures and rhyming words. Reading about another culture’s food is an awesome start to learning about friends and neighbors of different heritage. The rhyming text is also so fun for kids to say and a wonderful exercise for little mouths learning how to speak. Every time I get sushi I can’t help but think of the lines…

We have the board books but they do come in bigger sizes. Not only are they educational and a great speech exercise, the pictures are absolutely beautiful. I love how Sanger pays homage to the unique traditions of the culture responsible for creating such delicious food.
